Fourth grade teacher Cindy Nebel is married to St. John’s Senior Pastor, Rev. Mark Nebel. She has five children: Mary, Chelsea, Michael, Matthew and Clara.
I come from a Missouri Synod family with three sisters who are Lutheran school teachers, two brothers who are LCMS pastors, and a father who is a retired LCMS pastor. My mom was also trained as a LCMS school teacher, but stayed home after getting married to raise our family.
My professional experience in teaching has all been in the Southern Illinois District, except for my first call, which was to Arenzville, Illinois where I taught 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grades for one year. After we were married and returned from my husband’s vicarage I taught for one year at St. Paul, Wood River, 3rd and 4th grades, five years at Faith, Godfrey, teaching 1st and 2nd grades, five years at Trinity, Centralia, teaching kindergarten, and four years at St. Mark’s, Steeleville where I taught 5th grade for one year, 5th and 6th and upper grade English for two years, and kindergarten and 6th grade Language Arts for one year. Now I am happy to serve as a fourth grade teacher at St. John’s, Red Bud.
I attended what now is called Concordia University Chicago in River Forest, Illinois for my BA degree in Education with two concentrations, Math and English.
