Pastor Mark Nebel has served St. John’s as Senior Pastor since July 1, 2007. Since his ordination in July of 1990 he has served Concordia Lutheran Church of Cottage Hills, Illinois and Trinity Lutheran Church of Hoyleton, Illinois. He enjoys all aspects of pastoral ministry, especially serving God’s people in worship, visiting members, providing spiritual care and comfort, and teaching God’s Word to youth and adults.
Pastor Nebel attended Lutheran grade schools in his hometown of Jefferson City, Missouri, and then high school at St. Paul’s College High in Concordia, Missouri. He graduated from St. Paul’s College (AA) and Concordia College-River Forest, IL (BA). He completed his education at Concordia Seminary (M.Div. and STM) and Washington University (MA) in St. Louis.
Pastor Nebel and his wife, Cindy, have been married since 1987. They have five children, Mary, Chelsea, Michael, Matthew and Clara. He is an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and Blues, the Missouri Tigers and the Kansas City Chiefs. He serves as the Circuit Visitor for the Lower Kaskaskia Circuit of the Southern Illinois District.
